In November of this year, all 140 members of the Virgnia General Assembly are up for election.  Though I do not have an opponent on the ballot, I still encourage everyone to participate in the upcoming election.  Make sure you are registered and exercise the priviledge of voting.
A photo identification, such as a valid driver's license, is now required for voting.  (A complete list of acceptable forms of identification are available on the Virginia State Board of Elections website sbe.virginia.gov.)  If you don't have a photo ID, you can get a FREE acceptable identification document from your local voter registration office.  In Norfolk, the number for the Office of Elections is 757-664-4353,  The office is located downtown in Norfolk City Hall, 810 Union Street, Room 808.  You may also email the Norfolk Office of Elections at vote@norfolk.gov.

Action by the Virginia General Assembly during the 2015 session combines the previous three sales tax holiday into one three-day event starting on August 7th and ending on August 9th at 11:59 p.m.  The tax holiday exempts qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane and emergency preparedness items, plus energy and water saving products from state sales tax.  Read more about the tax holiday from the Virginia Retail Federation in the news section of our website.
